DoD Domestic Travel Ban (Stop Move)

We are beginning to receive calls regarding the military's effort to prevent the spread of COVID-19 (coronavirus) by restricting travel.

The is a new subject which may change as time goes on.  Here is what we know so far.

The Dod has issued a stop move which you can read here

There is also a FAQ about the military travel ban.

Here are some key points related to the current ban:

  1. The ban is in effect from March 16 to May 11.
  2. The ban is in addition to restrictions on all DOD military and civilian personnel and their families traveling to, from, or through areas for which the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention have issued a Level 3 Travel Health Notice. That policy also stops PCS and TDY travel through May.
  3. Travel by patients and medical providers for the purpose of medical treatment for DoD  personnel and their family members is authorized.
  4. Individuals who have already initiated travel  (including intermediate stops) are authorized to continue to their final destination.
  5. Individuals  whose TDY ends while this memorandum is in effect are authorized to return to their home  station.
  6. Individuals pending retirement or separation during this period are exempt.
  7. There are exceptions for hardship, mission essential and humanitarian travel, but those exceptions must be approved. Domestic travel for medical treatment is excluded from the ban.
  8. For overseas travel, refer to the Travel Restrictions for DoD Components in Response to Coronavirus Disease 2019 memorandum dated March 11, 2020.
