Supreme Court and the Military Transgender Ban

There have been some questions about Monday's Supreme Court decision banning employment discrimination against LGBTQ persons and its impact on the military transgender ban. It appears that while Monday's decision does not directly overturn the ban, it gives reasoning and establishes a precedent which will make it likely that future legal challenges to the ban will be successful. The GI Rights Network will try to keep our website updated as the issue develops.

“Selective Objection” and “Conscientious Objection”

The military defines conscientious objection in terms of a religious or moral opposition to participating in war. Some people contacting the GI Rights Hotline fit in this category and we assist them in applying for discharge. Most of the these people we work with successfully get out.

14 April Update to Military Travel Ban

Although the final details are being modified, Secretary of Defense, Mark Esper, said on 14 April that the ban on all non-essential domestic and international Defense Department travel is going to be extended.  See other news stories on this website for the current details of the domestic and international stop move orders.
